Little Hautbois:

Built in the style prevalent in the reign of Elizabeth I, probably by William Baspole who acquired a long lease of the property in 1553, and in 1600 settled it on his son William on his marriage with Maria Cully. Richard Day was living here in 1652.

The present bridge appears to have been standing in 15c. The western parapet terminates at each end with a curious alcove covered by a tiled roof, and formerly containing a seat, possibly for the use of toll-collectors or watchmen. In 1779 when the river Bure was made navigable to Aylsham, this bridge was found to be too low and narrow. Another more suitable bridge was therefore erected, and the course of the river diverted.
